This piece was done for the Bill Mantlo tribute organized by Jason Leivian of Floating World Comics.
This is a nonprofit fundraiser to help out the writer of some of the most original and quirky Marvel titles, who's been suffering for the last years from injuries sustained in a car crash in 1992.
Jason contacted my friend Nuno Alves to add a piece to the event and was then kind enough to extend the invitation to the guys on our Lisbon studio. It has since then turned into a worldwide thing, open to anyone who'd like to participate in honouring Mantlo's work on the character.
This piece took me back to my old comics of the 80's and to the memories of reading this stuff in between classes. Great times...
Bill Mantlo could use our support (not with $) again. as a fellow artist who's done stuff on Bill's behalf before please go here for details how you can help: [link]
Thanks again. The two Roms I did were for the Bill Mantlo tribute over at Floating World Comics, actually, so they were kind of a dare, and a fun one at that.
Even though Rom was one of those characters I grew up reading a long time ago, I never thought of tackling him on paper, but I'm pretty happy with the result of both the pieces.

...and then wash your mouth out with soap.
The feel I was going for was that Marvel old school Kirby energy crackle.
And yeah, Rom doesn't mess around when he has the Neutralizer...

...thanks for being one of the people who still draws Rom. That number has been diminishing lately.
